Orchimont, a rich past.

Orchimont is a small village in the district of Vresse-sur-Semois in the province of Namur. About a hundred people still live there. The village is located two kilometers north of the center of Vresse and the stream "La Semois" near the French border. The hamlet Hérisson also belongs to Orchimont.

Orchimont (etymologically it means "Mountain of the Bears") had during the Middle Ages the status of city surrounded by ramparts and defended by a castle. In 1635, the army of Louis XIII invaded the Spanish Netherlands. On May 11, Orchimont fell and the castle was destroyed and never rebuilt. The construction of a road in 1878 destroyed even more the historical site. A renovated tower is the only thing remaining of the site.
